Distant relatives: British politicians
Nearest common ancestors to me
Being reliant on public sources, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information. Where I have significant doubts, I ignore what might be nearer common ancestors. There might also be other nearer common ancestors who I don't know about.
As I have seen enough data from different sources to be able to establish common ancestors with every American president so far elected, I ought to be able to do likewise for every British prime minister. That's the theory but it is proving to be a much harder task. In some cases, it may be impossible. Benjamin Disraeli looks particularly difficult, but we'll see.
Table 1
James Stanhope, 1st Viscount Stanhope was not a prime minister as we would now recognize one, but he was the nearest equivalent at the time. Michael Stanhope of Shelford and Anne Rawston are ancestors of John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne via their granddaughter Frances Stanhope. Depending on who the father is of Lady Elizabeth Stanhope, my nearest common ancestor with James Stanhope, 1st Viscount Stanhope might be three generations closer.
Henry Pelham and Thomas Pelham-Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle are brothers. In their case, the father of Lady Elizabeth Stanhope only makes a difference of one generation.
William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire is an uncle of William Cavendish-Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland. Both prime ministers are ancestors of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
John Murray, 1st Duke of Atholl and Catherine Drummond were born in the mid-16th century, but I have no dates just now.
